About Amber Faille, LCSW

Choosing the right therapist for your child matters. Here's a little about who I am and how I work with kids, teens, and families.

My Story

I became a child and family therapist because I believe deeply in the resilience of young people. Growing up in California, I witnessed firsthand how the right support at the right age can change a child's whole trajectory — and I felt called to be part of that.

After earning my Master of Social Work, I spent years working in community mental health, hospital settings, and private practice. Each of those experiences shaped the compassionate, practical approach I bring to every session today.

"I believe every child has an innate capacity to grow and heal. My job isn't to fix your child — it's to walk alongside them, and you, as they find their own way forward."

My Approach to Therapy

Therapy with me is warm, playful, and always at your child's pace. I draw from several evidence-based, developmentally appropriate approaches — including play therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and trauma-informed care — tailoring each session to the individual child's needs and goals, and keeping parents informed and involved.

I place a strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship. Research consistently shows that the quality of the connection between therapist and child is one of the most powerful predictors of positive outcomes. I take that seriously.

Who I Work With

I work primarily with children and teens — and their parents — navigating anxiety, big emotions and behavior, focus and attention challenges, trauma, family changes, grief, friendships, and self-esteem. I am proudly LGBTQ+ affirming and culturally responsive in my practice. I also welcome adult clients.

My clinical specialty is substance use disorders. I help adolescents and their families address early substance use and support lasting recovery, drawing on EMDR and other evidence-based approaches — often alongside the anxiety, trauma, and family challenges that go with it.

I offer in-person sessions and telehealth. Telehealth is available only to patients located in California, and many families find it offers the same — or greater — depth of connection as in-person work.

Outside the Office

When I'm not in session, you might find me hiking California's trails, reading, practicing mindfulness, or spending time with family. I find that staying connected to nature and community keeps me grounded — and it's a practice I often encourage with my clients too.
